Be as confident as a toddler

Be as confident as a toddler

With daughters only seven months apart, Brittany and I experience a lot of the same phases. Our two girls have different personalities but some changes seem to be pretty typical.

Terrible Twos

Brittany’s daughter Stella turned two April 7, while Brooklyn, my daughter, will be turning two Nov. 20. Although they call two that terrible age with tantrums, I really think it comes a bit sooner. Right around the time that kids learn to walk.

Once your child can walk on their two feet with their head in the air, they have this new found confidence. “I can do it all!” kids exclaim in a language we don’t yet understand, as they fall for the 14th time that day. But what happened after that? They get up and try again.

Get knocked down, but get up again

As the classic, one-hit-wonder Chumbawamba song,  “I get knocked down, but I get up again. You are never going to keep me down.” This is the sheer mentality of a toddler.

At Easter, no matter what Brittany and Ryan tried to do. Stella wanted to stand where she wanted for the family photo. She wasn’t going to let Dad hold her. She can stand proud.

We all can take a tip from Stella. How often do you not go after something because of fear of failure? You might worry about what others will think of you. Stella had no worries what her parents thought. This was her time. That spirit is admirable.

Brooklyn took her fork filled with noodles and fed herself. Did some noodles miss her mouth? You bet, they did. However, some also made it in to her enjoyment. She did it. She took a shot.

You may not accomplish everything you set out to do. But, you miss every shot you aren’t willing to take.

Act like a toddler

The next time you feel nervous to do something, you are afraid to fail, you don’t think you can reach your goal - just think like a toddler.

They don’t know how to scoop applesauce, but they aren’t going to just sit there and have mom do it. They don’t know what happens when you climb the stairs, but wow, look at the view from the top.

Be fearless like a toddler.

Stay simply confident,

Kayla
