Be present with confidence

Be present with confidence

Recently, we went on vacation to Florida. This was a chance for me to spend some quality time with my mom, daughter and aunts. It also was a time to relax.

However, if you are like me, do you sometimes need a vacation from the vacation?

During your vacation, you plan some activities or adventures along the way. And, if you are planning the trip for a big group, you have different opinions or plans change  - and then, you have more new decisions to make. Wasn’t the whole point of vacation to be a break?

Give me a break

We often find ourselves wanting a vacation for a much needed break. When it comes time to take that time away, we worry about what we are doing while on vacation.

I think as humans we have a difficult time doing nothing. We get bored. Then, at the same time, we feel overwhelmed like we have too much to do. Whether on vacation or not, it can all come down to your mindset.

Be present

The reason vacations feel like more work sometimes is because of the worry. Vacations are not your routine. It’s a new place, new people, new food, new everything. The way you stay ahead of that and keep your confidence, is by being present.

Dive into all the new experiences. You can sit and worry about where you will eat next or instead you can be excited about the opportunity to eat somewhere new.

Decisions and plans do not stop during vacation but if you appreciate the unknown rather than fear it, that exhaustion from vacation will change from stress to happiness. There is a fine line between anxiety and excitement. Physiologically, they are almost the same.

Change your perspective and be present in what you are doing right now.

For me, instead of focusing on, “Brooklyn needs to nap at 12:30.” I just splashed in the water with her. I built creatures in the sand. I played with blocks. We enjoyed our time together. I don’t often get one-on-one time with her, and I truly will never forget this trip.

With summer around the corner, I know there are many long weekends or trips in the near future. Plan as you must beforehand. Just remember, when you are there, take a break, soak it in and enjoy.

Stay simply confident,

Kayla
