Give yourself grace.
As the leaves start to fall from those once beautiful trees, I’m reminded that our lives have many seasons.
Whether you enjoy the winter for it’s cold temperatures and white blanket of beauty, or you just wish for those warm summer months back, we are heading to a new season.
Our lives experience many ups and downs, and everywhere in between.
To say I always feel confident would be a lie. Even to say that I feel confident most days, would be an understatement.
Sometimes, I really struggle with negative thinking. Negative thoughts often feed off of each other. Once I think I feel lazy, then I think I’m a bad mom, then I think I’m a bad wife, etc.
Making assumptions
Have you ever had a dream that someone did something terrible to you and you woke up a little angry at that person?
Assumptions are the same thing.
You may think you have all the right facts but assumptions are not accurate. You can’t read someone else’s mind. For example, I made the assumption one weekend that Drake was annoyed with me because he was passive, quiet and seemed to be ignoring me.
Instead of asking him about it, I assumed he was mad and I got mad at him. I was tired. It was Sunday. We had finished a lot of our prep for the week Saturday. Little did I know, he wasn’t mad. He was tired. He wanted to be lazy. He also wasn’t feeling the best.
This might seem like a simple example but had I not talked to Drake, I would’ve went to bed upset. It would have kept building. Things like this happen all the time and can hinder our confidence within ourselves.
Don’t let a bad moment become a bad day
As hard as it can be, don’t let one bad thing lead to a terrible day, and that terrible day lead to months or years.
If you find yourself making negative assumptions about someone in your life or negative thoughts about youself - take a step back. Remind yourself this is only temporary like a season. (Even if winter in Wisconsin feels so long).
Emotions are only 90 seconds long. It’s your internal dialogue and thoughts that keep those emotions in your life longer. Be upset, be sad, be angry and move forward.
A new season is coming.
Stay simply confident,
Kayla
