Find your personal style: 4 tips when you have ‘nothing to wear’

Have you recently said to yourself, “ugh! I have nothing to wear.” This isn’t for lack of clothes but stems from a change in your mood or personal style.

How to find your personal style

Personal style is a journey through your life. You may base it on trends, your lifestyle, your body or just the way clothes make you feel.

Before you drive into the four tips, if you feel like you have nothing to we wear, it could be your confidence getting you down.

Dress to make yourself feel good.

If your jeans don’t fit well, wear your leggings. But also build your confidence in other ways - get outside, listen to some music, laugh with your partner or kids.

You can do something to make you feel good on the inside and your outside will reflect that.

If you haven’t found your personal style or maybe need to change your fashion, here are four tips on what to do when you have nothing to wear:

1. Use Pinterest to find styles you like.

If you don’t have Pinterest, download the app. Create your email and password, and add some categories you like to begin.

All the information on Pinterest can be overwhelming. Because you are there to re-learn what clothes you like, start with fashion before you start DIYing your kitchen backsplash and making sour dough.

Once there, search terms like “women’s clothing” or “style” or “fashion.”

As an image based social media channel, you can start viewing and pinning any outfits you find appealing. There doesn’t have to be rhyme or reason at this point.

Create the board called “My Style <INSERT YEAR>” and have fun with it.

2. Choose styles that fit YOU

Once you have a good collection of outfit inspiration, look at the collection & unpin some that don’t really fit.

You should keep ones that fit with your body type.

Ask yourself, would this outfit fit my body type? Would I actually wear this?

In my opinion, you can rock any damn look you want!

However, I know there are types of clothing I don't like on my body. Or, maybe I’m not ready to explore those looks right now.

Remove those pins you would never wear, and now, you have your style or things you like right now in the palm of your hands at all times.

If you are in store or online shopping, use Pinterest as a guide for what to buy.

3. Declutter your old style

This is a difficult one but one of my favorites - declutter your clothes.

Select a number of clothes or hangers like 10 that you know you need to clear. For example, I will say if I want to buy four new shirts, I need to get rid of four or more.

You should Marie Kondo anything that doesn’t bring you joy anymore. Make space for things that bring you joy and your new style!

4. Buy new style

And now for the best part, you know what you like and you eliminated or donated some of the old style. It’s time to go shopping!
