Work from home is a concept that gained popularity in 2020, and seems to be holding steady these last couple years.
When it comes to fashion, industry standards have changed despite the Human Resources’ work attire policies.
Who is working from home?
According to Forbes, as of 2023, 12.7% of full-time employees work from home, while 28.2% work a hybrid model, which includes onsite and at-home work. This allows you some flexibility when it comes to your fashion choices at work and home.
What to wear working from home?
When you work remote, you will have days that your hair goes up in a bun, you wash your face and stay in your pajamas.
People assume those working from home are always in sweats.
However, according to a survey poll of Americans in September 2023 by GALLUP:
- 51% of women wear business casual
- 30% street clothes
- 14% uniforms.
*Men were similar stats across each category.
See, you are getting up early to look presentable. You go girl!!
To make your life easier though, here are 5 essential items to have in your closet to elevate your remote work style.
5 essential work from home clothes
1. Comfortable pants
Let’s face it. Most at-home jobs are sitting at a desk. It’s recommended you alternate between sitting and standing 6-15 times a day with an average eight-hour work day.
You need some comfortable leggings, dress pants or joggers to keep moving but also enjoy your work day.
A nice, butter-soft maxi skirt might make sitting at your desk feel like a vacay.
No one can see your legs behind a computer screen, but we recommend dressing for comfort on your bottom half.
2. Layers
Layers are essential when working onsite or at home.
The weather changes throughout the day. Your day starts cloudy and ends in sunshine. Air conditioning can have a mind of its own. Or, you may want to go for a walk in the afternoon.
Wear a nice cardigan or sweater over your short sleeve top or tank.
You will have work appropriate coverage for meetings, but you also can allow your arms to breathe during your downtime.
3. Accent jewelry
Another great piece of fashion that can add a little personality to your wardrobe is jewelry.
Beyond your beautiful smile, your colleagues and leaders see your style from the shoulders up.
Add a layered necklace, or put on some sparkle with hooped or dangled earrings.
This can give your team something to admire or remember while video chatting with you.
You can showcase jewelry with a flare or stick with your simple basics.
4. Easy-to-use hair accessories
When you work from home, it doesn’t always mean you have extra time to get ready in the morning.
You need hair clips, headbands or ponytails that fit your style and can make you look professional without a salon blowout, or even, a shower.
5. Stylish top
Saving the best for last, you need a new stylish top. You don’t have to skip having fun with your fashion just because your cat or dog is the only person to see you at home.
Express yourself with a stylish sweater or comfy jacket to bring your unique style to life when you work from home.
Don’t spend all day in your pajamas, (unless you want to). Put on a cute top that makes you feel comfortable and confident.
It will lead to a better day on the job and in your life.
Stay simply confident,
Kayla
